There’s one thing that you will almost always find in my kitchen – Huruli Happala or horse gram pappad. This micro-wave friendly (I usually brush a little ghee on this pappad and then microwave it, instead of deep-frying it in oil) pappad is a great accompaniment for rice and rasam and also makes a great snack. This and horse gram powder are usually on my shopping list when I’m at one of Malleshwaram’s old school ‘condiment stores’ in Bengaluru. Horse gram (Huruli in Kannada) is an integral part of most diets in Karnataka and it’s provided nutrition and wellness for

This week, businesses are showering teachers with a little love – in the form of store discounts and food freebies.

Teacher Appreciation Week officially kicked off Monday and runs through Friday, but the savings start Sunday at the nation’s two largest office-supply stores, Staples and Office Depot.

Throughout the week, some restaurants are offering free meals, buy-one-get-one free deals and discounts.

But the biggest freebie day for educators is Tuesday, which is Teacher Appreciation Day, also called National Teachers Day.

The federal Small Business Administration has opened the application process for awards of up to $10 million each to restaurants, wineries, caterers and a broad range of other food and drink purveyors financially impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. It’s a ray of good news for Sonoma County’s food and tourism industry, which has been battered by the downswing in business amid government-imposed safety orders of the past 14 months.

“Our district, it’s renowned for our great food and wine,” said Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, and a strong proponent of the fund. “The pandemic was crushing. It harmed a lot

There’s two types of people in this world: those who drink their coffee black (maybe with a spot of cream and sugar) and those who need seven pumps of specialty syrup, oat milk, and four extra shots of espresso. Anyone can be a bad customer, but the latter camp can easily create headaches for baristas.

Earlier this week, Twitter user Josie (aka @ProjectJosiee) took to the platform to air his thoughts on a particularly egregious series of Starbucks drink customizations. “On todays episode of why i wanna quit

A day when the ice cream machine is working at McDonald’s is almost as rare as gold. But when you get lucky, what a treat that is! Even better, tomorrow you can get a free McFlurry from McDonald’s to celebrate their new caramel brownie flavor so be sure to mark your schedule.

The promotion is for everyone who’s ever been confused by the classic McFlurry spoon. Sure, it looks sort of like a straw but does not, in fact, have any straw-like capabilities. It’s shaped the way it is so that it can lock into the McFlurry mixing machine to

Food insecurity in the world’s poorest countries reached record highs in 2020, with millions staring at famine, a situation exacerbated in part by the COVID pandemic, according to a UN report.

From Haiti to Syria, some 155 million people across 55 countries who rely the most on humanitarian assistance were classified as being in “crisis” – meaning in urgent need of food – a 20 million increase since 2019, according to the report released Wednesday.

The report – based on a study organised by the Global Network Against Food Crises, a partnership between the European Union, Food and Agriculture Organization,
